Roof Leak Detection, Commercial Building

Greenville, South Carolina – BLE was engaged to identify leaks in an existing roof of a commercial building in downtown Greenville, SC using electrical leak location (ELL) technology. The assessment was performed by applying an electrical current across the roof membrane surface using a hand-held wand.

During the assessment, the operator was alerted to the presence of holes, which included one full penetration to the roof and three areas where the roofing material appeared to be thin enough to trigger the ELL equipment.

Based on the findings, BLE suggested repair and/or maintenance to address the suspected breaches and the areas of apparent thinning. Locations with potential holes were marked on the roof by BLE personnel using non-abrasive wax pens and an overview aerial map was also provided to assist in locating the suspected breaches on the roof.
