Spartanburg, South Carolina – BLE provided subcontract geotechnical exploration services for the rehabilitation and upgrade to the pre-existing dam and spillway. Our services included performing a geotechnical exploration (soil borings, standard penetration test sampling, undisturbed sampling, test pits) and providing recommendations for filters, drains, rock anchors, lateral earth pressures, slope stability, site preparation, and piezometer installation. Laboratory testing performed as part of the exploration included moisture content, Atterberg-limits, grain size distribution, moisture-density relationship, triaxial shear, unconfined compression, direct shear, and consolidation. BLE also designed and monitored the construction of a temporary earthen cofferdam which successfully protected the construction site during a significant flood event.
