BLE successfully performed geotechnical design support and construction quality control services for a shoreline repair project of a high-voltage electrical transmission tower operated on the banks of the Tombigbee River in Alabama. This project was initiated in response to significant erosion along the Tombigbee River, which had exposed the foundations of the transmission tower, posing a risk to its structural integrity.
The BLE team conducted cone penetration test (CPT) soundings and soil test borings to assess the subsurface conditions. To address the erosion and stabilize the slope, BLE performed slope stability in support of a reinforced slope using a “living wall” system, which integrates vegetation into the slope design. This approach not only enhances stability but also promotes ecological benefits by establishing grass and tree roots within the slope’s facing. The successful completion of the shoreline repair for the transmission tower not only mitigated the risks associated with erosion but also reinforced the structural integrity of the transmission towers. This project exemplifies BLE’s commitment to providing innovative engineering solutions.
