Pedestrian Bridge Inspections
Greenville, SC – The Swamp Rabbit Trail is a 22-mile long greenway that runs along the Reedy River on a historic rail bed. BLE was engaged to perform a condition assessment for 9 of the 17 pedestrian bridges along the trail. The majority of the bridges vary from steel and wood to steel and concrete structures. The assessments included reviewing the decks (whether wood or concrete), all structural steel components, all connections (whether bolted or welded), structure coatings, and the foundations of the bridges. Several of the bridges were stone masonry, one of which was 200+ years old. The assessment for these bridges included reviewing all stone/masonry materials, mortar joints between the stone, the concrete decks and the foundations. BLE prepared recommendations for observed deficiencies and future maintenance.
