Spartanburg, South Carolina – Since opening for production in July 1994, an automotive manufacturing facility located on 1,150 acres in the Upstate of South Carolina, has continuously expanded and today (2018) incorporates more than 6 million square feet under roof. The client’s total investment in its South Carolina operations exceeds $8 billion and the company provides employment for approximately 10,000 people on site and 30,000 people statewide. Current production rates exceed 30,000 vehicles per month.
Over the past six years, BLE has had a continuous presence at the plant. During that time, we have worked on 43 different projects ranging from relatively minor interior modifications to the construction of a new Paint Shop, Analysis Center and additional Production Facilities. Our activities have included numerous geotechnical explorations and providing recommendations for foundation design and site preparation. We have documented load tests on high capacity augered cast-in-place piles, performed vibration monitoring, conducted environmental sampling and testing of soils designated to be hauled off-site, and performed ground penetrating radar testing to identify subgrade utilities.
BLE has also provided extensive construction materials testing and special inspection services. These services have included testing and inspection of soil, concrete, steel, pavement systems, fireproofing, paint, insulation, and roofing.
